I deliver babies as a nurse, and I have to say the reason I do this is because of the reactions of the fathers and mothers right after delivery. Disbelief, automatic and unconditional love, tears, anticipation and wonder. Helplessness and innocence thrust into what fate or destiny has named their parents; in a sudden moment you witness a family bloom. In the good cases, that is.

Fall nights, past midnight, when you're walking outside and the pavement has that icy sheen after it's rained - the most beautiful thing is when the wind wakes up and the shadows of falling leaves and rustling branches make it seem like you're in the middle of a million living things in the most quiet moment of the night.
